Like a Child
Today’s Text:
Mark 10:13–16 (WEB) — 13 They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. 15 Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.” 16 He took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
1. What is happening in this passage?
The disciples try to stop children from coming to Jesus. He’s upset at this. God’s Kingdom is for them and those like them. Jesus blesses them.
2. What is God revealing about humanity?
We like to judge and play gatekeepers, but we must become the opposite of that. We can be either judgmental or lowly.
3. What is God revealing about Himself?
God is angry when anyone gets in between Him and a gentle and lowly spirit. He seeks, welcomes, and blesses those who humble themselves like children, and seeks for His followers to make way for all these to come to Him.
4. How should our lives change?
We must never become gatekeepers for those who would come to Jesus. In fact, if we ourselves want to enter His Kingdom, we will humble ourselves in a way like children—gentle, trusting, meek, helpless, forgiving. Only then are we welcomed into Jesus’ arms and blessed.
