Jesus Revealed To Children

Today’s Text:

Matthew 11:25–30 (WEB) — 25 At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. 26 Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight. 27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him. 28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

1. What is happening in this passage?

Jesus praises God for revealing Himself to the innocent and oppressed and then proceeds to welcome those people to find rest in Him, because they are the ones Jesus chooses to reveal Himself to.

2. What is God revealing about humanity?

Those who think themselves wise (that is, those who oppress the weak) have God hidden from them. Those who are like children—the weary and burdened—are invited by Jesus to find rest in Him.

3. What is God revealing about Himself?

He searches hearts, hiding Himself from the proud, but He finds pleasure in inviting the weak and humble to know Him and find rest with Him.

4. How should our lives change?

To know God, we must humble ourselves and be like Jesus—humble and gentle. When we become like Him, we accept His invitation to learn from Him, and it is only in this state of gentle humility, like a child, that we find true rest and peace.
